My Approach to Nutritional Therapy
Nutritional Therapy is an evidence-based approach that uses food, lifestyle and targeted nutrients to support the body’s natural ability to heal and function well. Rather than simply managing symptoms, it looks at the whole picture, that is your digestion, hormones, energy, sleep, stress levels, medical history and daily habits - to understand what may be driving your health concerns.
This follows a functional medicine model, which focuses on identifying underlying imbalances and how different systems of the body are interconnected. By understanding these root causes, we can create a personalised, practical plan that supports long-term health in a way that fits your real life.

1. We Start With Your Full Story

Your first consultation is all about understanding you. We explore your symptoms, lifestyle, medical history, stress levels, sleep, and food diary to build a complete picture of your health. This helps us identify what may be driving your concerns, not just what’s showing up on the surface.

2. We Explore the Root Causes

Using a functional medicine framework, I connect the dots between your digestion, hormones, energy, mood, metabolism and overall wellbeing. If helpful, we may discuss functional testing (such as hormone, gut or nutrient testing) to gain deeper insights. These are optional & not always required.

3. You Receive a Personalised Plan

You will receive a tailored nutrition and lifestyle plan designed specifically for your needs, goals and preferences. When appropriate, I may recommend targeted supplements to support specific areas but only where they add real value and always with your budget and preferences in mind.

4. We Build Progress Through Regular Support

Follow-up sessions allow us to review your progress, discuss what’s working, tweak your plan, and support you through any challenges. You’ll have ongoing guidance, clarity and encouragement as your symptoms begin to shift.

5. We Create Long-Term, Sustainable Change

My goal is to help you feel confident and in control of your health long term. Together, we build habits and routines that support steady energy, balanced digestion, hormonal health and overall wellbeing — so you continue feeling your best well beyond our sessions.

FAQs
What is A Functional Medicine Model?

A functional medicine model looks at how the different systems in your body work together, rather than viewing symptoms in isolation. Instead of asking “How do we treat this symptom?”, it asks “Why is this happening?”
It considers factors such as digestion, hormones, stress, sleep, movement, environment, and nutrition, recognising that each plays a role in your overall wellbeing. This approach helps uncover the root causes behind your symptoms so we can address the why, not just the what, and create long-term, meaningful change.

How Does A Registered Nutritional Therapist differ from a Nutritionist or Dietician?

Choosing the right type of nutrition professional can feel confusing. Here’s a simple guide to the difference:

Registered Nutritional Therapist (that’s me)

A Registered Nutritional Therapist takes a whole-body, root-cause approach to health.

This means:
🌿You are seen as an individual, not a diagnosis
🌿Support is personalised to your symptoms, lifestyle and history
🌿Nutrition, lifestyle and functional testing may be used together
🌿The focus is on addressing why symptoms are happening - not just managing them
🌿Care is evidence-based and tailored rather than one-size-fits-all
Registered Nutritional Therapists have completed accredited training and are registered with professional bodies such as BANT UK and CNHC, ensuring safe, ethical and professional practice.

Please not that the title of 'Nutritional Therapist' is not legally protected in the UK so it is important that you find somebody who has completed accredited training and registered with professional bodies such as BANT and CNHC.

Nutritionist

The title “nutritionist” is also not legally protected in the UK, meaning anyone can use it regardless of training.
Many nutritionists are well-qualified, but many are not clinically trained. The level of expertise and regulation can vary widely, which is why checking registration and qualifications is important! 'Registered' nutritionists are governed by the Association of Nutrition (AfN) who acts as a voluntary regulator.

Dietitian

A 'Dietitian' is a legally protected title in the UK & are regulated healthcare professionals who usually work within the NHS or medical settings.

Dietitians:
-
Are experts in medical nutrition therapy
-
Often work with specific medical conditions.
-
Follow clinical guidelines and protocols
-
Tend to use standardised dietary approaches rather than personalised root-cause investigation.
